Reflecting the world we live in
Project R
Drawing exploration
It’s the choice between toilet humour joke, a monkey or the default white, cishet man. Is that the world we live in? No. Don’t get me wrong, they serve a purpose for some. But like many others, I want to see the people in my life reflected around me.
Project R was created to draw from reality. It was wholesome; I raised some money for King's Hospital (middle of the grid below), made some prints and had a lovely time exploring illustrations and asking myself questions, finding the balance between no facial features and including facial hair and discovering what brushes went with different hair types, figuring out the lumps and bumps, figuring out colour harmony, and deciding against it sometimes. I'll never claim to be a self-taught pro, but my development of drawing hands significantly improved, if I do say so myself.
