Reflecting the world we live in
Project R
Drawing exploration
In the words of Dr Ronx, you can’t be what you can’t see. This statement rings true for me on every level, and the one that started irking me was the greeting card industry. It’s the choice between a fart joke, a monkey or the default white, slim brown-haired man (think Love Island’s tall, dark and handsome). Is that the world we live in? No. Like many others, I want to see the people in my life reflected around me.
So, Project R was created with the plan to draw from my reality. It was wholesome; I raised some money for King's Hospital, made some prints and had a lovely time exploring illustrations and asking myself questions, finding the balance between no facial features and including facial hair and discovering what brushes went with different hair types, figuring out the lumps and bumps, figuring out colour harmony, and deciding against it sometimes. I'll never claim to be a self-taught pro, but my development of drawing hands has significantly improved, if I do say so myself.
