Tackling domestic abuse at it’s source

UNDP –Social Impact Campaign

For generations, gender-based violence (GBV) in Afghanistan has been buried in silence and widely considered private, inevitable, and pretty much unchangeable. But change starts with a conversation.

Talk for Harmony was created to start that conversation.

We worked with UNDP Afghanistan and Zinc Network to build a campaign that did more than say, “This is wrong”. We gave people another way.

With a message that hit home, we spoke directly to those at risk, both victims and perpetrators, with the idea that: "If you could see yourself on the brink of violence, you’d feel ashamed, and you’d choose another path."

Giving a platform to a community-led movement, we partnered with activists, religious scholars, and psychologists to bring the issue into the light and address it from multiple angles. From Radio & social media broadcasts with practical, judgment-free guidance, Counseling & meditation resources to local-led support networks for victims to safely speak out.

For the first time, victims and perpetrators had tangible solutions, a way to break cycles, seek help, and choose a different future.

Violence thrives in silence. Talk for Harmony proved that words can be just as powerful.
